For the Meatballs:

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ½ lb ground turkey or chicken
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (or GF alternative)
  • 1 egg (or flaxseed egg)
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp milk or plant-based milk
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 2 tbsp oil for frying

For the Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp butter or dairy-free margarine
  • 2 tbsp flour (or GF substitute)
  • 1½ cups beef or vegetable broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream or oat cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tsp Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Soak breadcrumbs in milk.
  2. Combine meat, onion, egg, soaked breadcrumbs, and seasonings.
  3. Shape into 1-inch meatballs.
  4. Fry in batches until golden and cooked through. Set aside.
  5. In the same pan, melt butter, add flour to make roux.
  6. Whisk in broth and cream, simmer until thickened.
  7. Return meatballs to sauce and simmer 5 minutes.
  8. Serve hot with sides of choice.
