- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup (or homemade substitute)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or blend)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional: green onions, parsley, paprika for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat with onion and garlic until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
- Layer half the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Top with half the beef mixture.
- Repeat layers, ending with potatoes.
- Whisk together soup and milk, pour evenly over the dish.
- Top with cheese. Cover with foil.
- Bake covered for 45 minutes, uncover and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
- Rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
