Cheese Sauce for Fries: Creamy, Melty & Totally Crave-Worthy

An easy and ultra-creamy homemade cheese sauce, perfect for drizzling over fries, nachos, or roasted veggies. Silky, rich, and customizable with fun flavor twists!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk (or heavy cream)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of paprika or cayenne (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. Gradually pour in milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. Reduce heat to low, and slowly add shredded cheese by handfuls.
  5. Stir until fully melted and smooth.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  7. Serve warm over crispy fries, or as a dip!
